Medal for the Defense of Leningrad ‘Polished Sky’
Medal for the Defense of Leningrad; made of heavy gold plated brass. Measures 32.17 mm in width, 37.63 mm in height, including the eyelet and weighs 17.6 gram.
This medal is in excellent condition with perfect details and most gold plating still present. The medal shows several small dings and contact marks on both sides but none distracting from the overall appeal of the medal. The double layer suspension is time period to the medal.
These heavy gold plated, ‘proof coinage’ medals with a polished sky were produced for high ranking military personnel and officials. Extra attention was given in the production and even the eyelet and connection ring were heavily plated. Only a handful were produced and they can be considered among the rarest of campaign medals!
