Description
Medal for the Defense of Kiev with document
Awarded to Mikhail Vasilievich Baldakov (Михаил Васильевич Балдаков)
Made of brass. Measures 32.08 mm in width, 37.00 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 16.1 grams without its suspension.
The medal is in a nice overall condition with its details still visible and light wear to the raised areas. There are few dings and scratches and much of the original luster is still visible on both sides. Its suspension and ribbon are time period to the medal.
Its accompanying document is in excellent condition. It is dated 28 June 1962 and numbered ‘751172’
The medal was most likely awarded to the Captain we found online as he is the only person by that name we could find who fought in Kiev. More information on him can be found here. One thing we do know for sure is that he worked at the KGB in 1962 as the document mentions that.
The Medal “For the Defence of Kiev” was awarded to all participants in the defence of the Hero-City of Kiev – Soviet Army soldiers and troops of the former NKVD, as well as all the workers who participated in the defense of Kiev in the ranks of the militia, in the construction of fortifications, who worked in factories serving the needs of the front, members of the Kiev underground and partisans who fought against the enemy near Kiev.
