Soviet Medal for the Defense of Kiev
Mint Error with the wrong reverse struck with a die used for the Medal for the Capture of Vienna
Made out of gold plated brass. Measures 32.09 mm in width and 37.05 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 16.0 gram without its suspension.
In excellent condition with its details crisp and light wear only. A fair amount of gold plating is still present on its obverse. Its aluminium suspension and ribbon are time period to the medal and its connection ring has been cut.
According to several sources a limited number of medals were struck with a wrong die for its reverse; the one which is used to produce medals for the Capture of Vienna. These medals are hard to find and are very collectible and sought after.
