Medal for the Capture of Konigsberg
Variation 4 ‘Voenkomat’
Made of brass. Measures 32.00 mm in width, 37.03 mm in height including its eyelet and weighs 15.6 grams without its suspension.
In near mint condition with crisp details and all of the original gold-like luster present. It comes with its time period suspension.
This medal is one of the post-war issues that were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances, the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
Awarded to Soviet service personnel who took part in the capture of Königsberg between 23 January and 10 April 1945.
