Soviet XX RKKA Medal. 1938
This XX year RKKA medal is made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 32.24 mm in diameter, 2.97 mm in thickness at the very edge of the medal and 35.87 mm in height (including the eyelet). It weighs 24.2 gram.
This original 20th Anniversary of the RKKA medal is in excellent, well above average condition with most details present. The higher laying parts on its reverse show medium wear. The soldier’s eyes, fingers and rifle are all visible. The enamel shows some small dings and a superficial chip at the tip of the 9 o’clock ray of the red star. None penetrating the silver however and distracting from the overall appeal of the medal. Its double layer steel suspension is time period to the medal and its connection ring has been cut.
Scarce and increasingly difficult to find these days.
The Jubilee Medal “XX Years of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army” was awarded to staff and commanding officers of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and Navy who had, as of February 23, 1938 (the Day of the Red Army), served for 20 years in its ranks, and to those honoured during the Civil War and the war for freedom and independence of the motherland in units of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and Navy; to those awarded the Order of the Red Banner for distinguished service during the Civil War..
