Variation with U-shaped eyelet
Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 32.11 mm in diameter and 2.27 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 37.34 mm including the eyelet and it weighs 17.7 grams without its suspension.
In excellent condition crisp details and light overall wear. Both sides show relatively few small dings and scratches and the original enamels filling the letter ‘CCCP’ is fully present and without repairs. Its connection ring has not been cut and the medal comes with its time period brass suspension.
This medal was among the first batch produced without a serial number and using “hot” enamels. It was minted only for a short period before they switched to a round-shaped eyelet instead of a U-shaped one. Not often seen!
This military medal awarded for “combat action resulting in a military success”; “courageous defence of the state borders”; or “successful military and political training and preparation”. Also awarded for 10 years of service prior to the creation of the long service awards.
