Documented group of Soviet Awards

 

Awarded to Guards Major Pavel Grigorievich Kozakov (Павел Григорьевич Козаков)

 

For destroying 2 enemy tanks while commanding of a group of 4 tanks and 2 SPGs, for street fighting in Potsdam, fighting in Lviv and arranging new party members

 

The group consists of the following items:

 

Order of the Red Banner #265254

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 45.53 mm in height, 37.51 mm in width and weighs 25.1 gram without its suspension. The mint mark Monetni Dvor and the serial number are located at the bottom of its reverse.

This order is in nice condition with all details visible. The higher laying silver parts show light to medium wear. The red enamel has a large chip on the left side of the top banner but is otherwise problem free. The white enamel is fully present without chipping or flaking. There have been no repairs and the suspension and uncut connection ring are time period to the order.

 

Order of the Red Star #815465

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 49.75 mm in width, 48.49 mm in height and weighs 32.0 gram. The mint mark Monetni Dvor and the serial number are located on the bottom of its reverse.

This order is in sublime condition with all details crisp and stunning enamels. There are some microscopic contact marks only and there have been no repairs. Its screw is full length and the silver screwplate is original to the order. Next to impossible to upgrade!

 

Order of the Red Star #815600

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.06 mm in height, 49.62 mm in width and weighs 30.3 gram. The mint mark Monetni Dvor in two lines is located at the top of its reverse and the serial number at the bottom.

Like the previous Red Star this order is absolutely beautiful with crisp details, nice toning to the silver and stunning enamels. There have been no repairs and the order comes with its time period and well fitted screwplate.

 

Order of the Red Star #3295575

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.05 mm in height, 48.03 mm in width and it weighs 30.7 gram. The mint mark Monetni Dvor in two lines is located at the top of its reverse and the serial number at the bottom.

In near mint condition with perfect enamels and crisp details. It comes with its time period screwplate and is impossible to upgrade!

 

Medal for Combat Merit 

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 32.23 mm in diameter, 37.09 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 19.0 gram without its suspension.

Excellent example in great condition with crisp details and all the enamel filling the letting ‘CCCP’ present. Its connection ring has not been cut and the brass suspension and old ribbon are time period to the medal.

 

Order Booklet

In excellent condition with all pages firmly attached. The booklet mentions all awards above and an Order of the Patriotic War 1st class which is missing in this group.

 

 


Citation of the Order of the Red Banner #265254

In the battles on the 1st Ukrainian front from 16 April to 09 May 1945, he participated in the combat operations for forced crossing of the Spree river and in the capture of the towns: Ketzin, Potsdam, Prague, and many other settlements. He acted bravely and courageously in these engagements.

During the forced crossing of the Spree river, comrade KOZAKOV was among the combat formations of the 3rd motorised battalion and participated in the capture of the settlement Spreewitz. In this action, the battalion inflicted severe losses upon the enemy personnel and materiel. Comrade KOZAKOV inspired the troops by his personnel conduct.

In the battle for the town Potsdam during 26-27 April, he was among in the 3rd motorised battalion and participated in the forced crossing the canal and in the street fighting. The battalion crushed the opposing force and captured 4 food and military equipment depots.

In the combat engagements for the towns Stücken and Zauchwitz on 2-3 May, he participated in the actions being among the combat troops.

He was active as the secretary of the Communist party commission and organised for the most distinguished soldiers to become members and join the party. He deserves state award order “RED BANNER”

Citation of the Order of the Red Star #815465

He proved himself as a courageous political officer during the battles on the 1 Ukrainian front in March 1944.

In the engagement for the village Manacin, he participated in the defence against two enemy counter-attacks, while being among the 2nd battalion.

In the battle for the town Skalat, he was right among the combat troops and participated in the capture of the town and in the defence of it. Near the town Skalat, comrade KOZAKOV was assigned to be in command of a group of 4 tanks and 2 SPGs. This group was covering our main force during their exit from the town. The group destroyed 2 enemy tanks during the defence.Comrade KOZAKOV was wounded in his leg in this engagement.

 


Citation of the Order of the Red Star #815600

Comrade KOZAKOV proved himself as a courageous and brave political officer in the battles on the 1st Ukrainian near the village Ivachuv, town Peremyshlyany, town Bobrka, town Lviv, town Sambor, and village Bardo.

Being in the forward combat group (one tank regiment, one motorised infantry battalion, artillery squadron), comrade KOZAKOV took direct part in the engagements for capturing the towns Peremyshlyany, Bobrka, Stoke, and Lviv. In the battle for the town Lviv, he participated in fending off 5 enemy counter attacks. In this actions, the enemy lost 22 tanks, 15 armoured personnel carriers, and a lot of equipment was captured.

As the deputy head of the political office, he ensured efficient governance of the political officers during he combat, which assisted in the capture of town Lviv.

Near the village Bardo on 30 August 1944, he participated was in the 1st motorised battalion and participated in the defence against ferocious enemy attacks and later in regaining the lost ground. The enemy suffered severe losses. Up to 400 enemy troops were killed and one SPG destroyed. He was active as the secretary of the political office and arranged the process for the new party members. 150 new party members joined during the latest combat period. He deserves state award order “RED BANNER”.”
