ломадзе Pеваз Eвгеньевич

Awarded to Guards Sergeant Revaz Yevgenevich Lomadze (Реваз Евгеньевич Ломадзе)

For directing fire on enemy positions during a night battle on October 22, 1943, holding off advancing tanks and Ferdinand self-propelled guns which repelled the German attack. Also awarded for restoring two disabled vehicles under artillery fire on April 25–26, 1945, after a column was bombarded by enemy aircraft during a traffic jam at the Berlin-Zorashchikh highway bridge

The group consists of the following items:

Order of the Red Star #383752

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 46.80 mm in height, 47.65 mm in width and weighs 27.6 grams without screwplate. The mint mark Monetni Dvor in two lines is located above its screwpost and the serial number at the bottom.

In nice condition with well preserved enamels without repairs or chipping. The center medallion portraying the soldier shows light to medium wear with a fair amount of detail still visible. Its reverse shows an appealing patina to the silver and its mint mark and serial number are well defined. The order comes with a wartime-era (but incorrect) screwplate that fits well, and the screwpost has been shortened by a few millimeters for more comfortable wear.

Medal for Bravery #2721257

Made of solid silver and red lacquer. It measures 37.26 mm in diameter, 42.49 mm in height including the eyelet and weighs 27.8 grams without its suspension.

The medal is in above average condition with well defined details and light to medium wear to the raised areas. Most of the original red lacquer filling the lettering is still present and both sides show a nice even patina to the silver. Its double layer suspension and ribbon are time period to the medal and its connection ring has not been cut.

Medal for the Liberation of Warsaw

Made of brass. Measures 32.13 in diameter and weighs 17.4 grams without suspension.

The medal is in excellent condition with crisp details and relatively few dings and scratches. It comes with a time period double layer steel suspension and old ribbon.

Brief summary of the citation for the Red Star:

On the night of October 22, 1943 the battery stood up battle formation in the district of BALKA POPOV in order to direct fire on the enemy positions on the front line. At 4:00 am the enemy machine gunners supported by Ferdinand self-propelled artillery and tanks attacked the battery.

The battery was shelled by the self-propelled artillery and the tanks. The submachine gunners attacked from the front and from the flanks and were approaching the battery.

Comrade Lomadze moved forward with a submachine gun and with his fire restrained the onslaught of the submachine gunners, forcing them to lie low before they reached to the battery. When his comrade arrived to assist comrade Lomadze despite the heavy shelling and the firing from the enemy, managed to reach the division’s headquarters and reported the situation. The help from infantry units came in a timely manner and the German attack was successfully repulsed.

For perseverance, resourcefulness and courage he deserves to be awarded with the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class. [downgraded to a Red Star]

Brief summary of the citation for the Medal for Bravery:

On the night of 25/04/45, the division changed positions on the West bank of the Oder River When a traffic jam was created at the crossing of the Berlin-Zorashchikh highway bridge, a column of tanks and artillery was bombarded by enemy aircraft. Fragments of bombs disabled 2 cars and the drivers were injured.

During the night and day, Comrade Lomadze helped under the artillery fire restore the division’s vehicles. By 9 a.m. on 26.4.45, both cars were restored.

Worthy of the government award-medal “For Courage”.
