Captain (later Colonel) Gavrilov’s career and accomplishments during the war:

Captain Pavel Kondratievich Gavrilov, a dedicated officer in the Red Army, was born in 1910 and identified as Belarusian. His commitment to the Communist Party began in 1938. Although he did not participate in the civil war or subsequent military operations to defend the USSR, his career in the Red Army started in November 1930.

Captain Gavrilov’s primary contribution to the Red Army was in the field of aviation education. He spent a significant portion of his service working in various aviation schools, where he played a pivotal role in training and developing future aviators. From 1936 to April 1940, he held multiple management positions at the Chelyabinsk Military Aviation School, where he served as an instructor, deputy head of the flight training department, and head of the same department. His performance was consistently rated positively, highlighting his capability to handle responsibilities amid the school’s formation and expansion.

In April 1940, Captain Gavrilov was transferred to the Omsk Military Aviation School, where he continued to demonstrate his exceptional organizational skills as head of the flight training department and later as the chief of staff of the school. His tenure at Omsk was marked by successful handling of responsibilities during the school’s establishment and growth.

By January 1942, Gavrilov was promoted to senior navigator inspector at the Air Force University. Later that year, he was assigned to the Balashevskaya Military Aviation School as head of the flight training department, tasked with revitalizing the school’s neglected educational processes. Despite the challenge of the school’s evacuation to Siberia, Gavrilov effectively managed the transition and reestablished the training programs, gaining recognition for his leadership and organizational skills.

In February 1943, Captain Gavrilov was appointed chief of staff at the Armavir Military Aviation School. He quickly adapted to his new role, demonstrating remarkable efficiency and turning the headquarters into a well-organized and effective unit. His efforts were recognized through several inspections in 1943, where his work received high praise from superiors.

Under his leadership, the Armavir Military Aviation School thrived, with significant achievements in pilot training. The school excelled in meeting its training goals, becoming one of the leading aviation schools in the Red Army by 1943 and 1944, achieving a 108% fulfillment rate of its training plan.

Captain Gavrilov’s unwavering dedication and exceptional performance in training and educating Red Army pilots earned him the prestigious Order of the Red Star. This award acknowledged his seven years of fruitful and impactful work in shaping the future of Soviet aviation.
