Awarded to political instructor Vladimir Ilyich Omelchenko (Владимир Ильич Омельченко)

 

For excellent training and organization the Don River crossing of a convoy of 35 vehicles without losses and under heavy bombardment

 

 

The group consists of the following items:

 

Medal for Combat Merit #200775

Made of solid silver. The medal itself measures 32.18 mm in diameter and 36.73 mm in height including the eyelet. It weighs 22.0 grams without its suspension and 30.7 grams with the suspension but without the nut. The eyelet is 5.40 mm in width and the suspension measures 25.15 mm in width at its narrowest point and 31.63 at its widest point.

The medal is in nice condition with several small dings and scratches and light overall wear. Its details are still perfectly visible and all of the red lacquer is worn off. The silver suspension is original as is the silver screw, the nut, the plate holding the ribbon and the screw plate tightening it all up. Its connection ring has not been cut.

 

Medal for Combat Merit #3018470 U-shaped eyelet

Made of silver and red lacquer. Measures 32.08 mm in width, 37.48 mm in height including the eyelet and it weighs 17.9 grams without suspension. 

In similar condition as the previous medal but with much of the original red lacquer still present.  Its connection ring is uncut and the medal comes with its time period suspension and ribbon.

 

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #3099800 with document

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 43.90 mm in width, 45.97 mm in height and it weighs 27.1 grams without its screwplate.

In excellent condition with problem free enamels and few traces of wear. Most rhodium plating on the silver is still present and it comes with its well fitted screwplate.

The order comes with its document which is in equally nice condition and numbered A 306900

Brief, specific statement of personal military feat or merit

Omelchenko, Vladimir Ilyich has been participating in the Soviet Patriotic War from the first days of hostilities in the 31st Motor Transport Regiment as instructor of the regiment's
propaganda. He possesses good organizational skills and theoretical knowledge of propaganda and showed himself to be disciplined and demanding of both himself and his subordinates. Throughout all the days of the Patriotic War Comrade Omelchenko carried out tireless propaganda work, cementing the high morale of the regiment's personnel in a Bolshevik manner. Through lectures, reports, heartfelt conversations with fighters and commanders, OMELCHENKO brought up a good team of agitators from fighters, commanders and political workers.

Exceptional courage, determination, bravery and courage were shown by comrade OMELCHENKO as commissar for operational transportation, as well as for the collection of materiel and personnel of the regiment.

On May 17 and 18, 1942 in the areas of Bogorodichnoye and Izium. Under fire from aviation and artillery OMELCHENKO inspired and personally supervised the collection of materiel.

On 7-9 July 1942 OMELCHENKO was appointed commissioner of a convoy of 35 vehicles. In the area of ​​the crossing over the Don River, the village of Boguchar, despite the repeated bombing of the crossing by enemy aircraft, comrade OMELCHENKO showed courage and courage and by personal example he organized the river crossing of all personnel and materiel. The echelon of 35 vehicles was transported without loss of materiel and troops.

For the correct organization and management of propaganda and propaganda work, for the excellent fulfillment of the tasks of the command in the fight against the German invaders
and the courage shown at the same time, senior political instructor OMELCHENKO, Vladimir Ilyich is worthy of being awarded the Government award the Medal 'FOR MILITARY MERITS'

 

Omelchenko's second Medal for Combat Merit was awarded for 10 years service in the Red Army
