Documented group of an Order of the Red Star #857547 and a Medal for Bravery #760941 DUPLICATES

Федор Алексеевич Рамзаев

Awarded to Guards Private Fedor Alekseevich Ramzaev (Федор Алексеевич Рамзаев)

For displaying exceptional skill and bravery in two key reconnaissance operations in 1944. His intelligence under heavy fire enabled precise artillery strikes, resulting in the elimination of 100 enemy soldiers, the destruction of 10 vehicles and the suppression of 12 enemy firing points

The group consists of the following items:

Order of the Red Star #760941

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.15 mm in width, 46.00 mm in height and weighs 29.8 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post. The original serial number was sanded out and the serial number of the lost Red Star was stamped in a typical small font accompanied by a Cyrillic D

This beautiful order of the Red Star is absolutely mint condition. The details are crisp and even the raised areas of the center medallion show no wear. The enamels are absolutely stunning and extremely well preserved without dings or scratches. The silver shows an appealing medium patina on both sides and its screw has not been shortened.

Medal for Bravery #857547

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 37.08 mm in width, 42.05 mm in height and weighs 29.2 grams without its suspension.

This medal is also in mint condition without any traces of wear and pristine enamels. Since a very late medal was used as replacement for the lost Medal for Bravery, there was no need to remove a serial number from the medal. The number of the lost medal was thus just stamped at the bottom also accompanied with a Cyrillic D.

Order Booklet

The booklet is in great condition too with all pages present and firmly attached to its cover. It mentions the two awards with their original awarding date and the date (1987) that the duplicates were bestowed.

About duplicates:

These pieces were (seldom) issued to recipients and only to those who lost their original awards due to exceptional circumstances beyond their control, such as combat or natural disasters. Duplicates are thus very rare to find, especially with accompanying documental evidence.

Translation of the citation to the Red Star:

During the battles in the area of the village of Steti from July 29 to 31, 1944, while being in the battle formations of the 319th Rifle Regiment and under heavy enemy fire, Ramzaev conducted reconnaissance missions and provided valuable intelligence on enemy activities. He identified and reported the concentration of enemy infantry 1000 meters northeast of Hill 104.4, 1000 meters west of Hill 104.4, and enemy firing positions west and north of the village of Steti. Additionally, he located mortar positions near the village of Lyubenka.

As a result of his timely and accurate intelligence, artillery fire was effectively directed at these locations, leading to the elimination of up to 100 enemy soldiers, the destruction of 10 vehicles (including armored ones), the suppression of 12 enemy firing points, and the neutralization of one mortar battery. His actions displayed exceptional courage, skill, and dedication, significantly contributing to the success of the operation.

Translation of the citation to the Medal for Bravery:

A reconnaissance observer of the command platoon of the 229th Guards Mortar Regiment, Guards Private Ramzaev Fedor Alekseevich, is nominated for his exceptional actions on March 27, 1944. While performing a combat mission, Rozlov discovered the concentration of enemy infantry and transport forces at the battalion’s location. Accurately determining the coordinates, he relayed this critical information to the artillery command, enabling a targeted artillery strike. The strike successfully disrupted and scattered the enemy’s position, significantly contributing to the overall battle outcome.

Born in 1925, a member of the Komsomol (Young Communist League), Russian by nationality, and conscripted by the Penza Regional Military Commissariat.
