Badge to an Activist of the Society “Friend of Children” of the RSFSR
Second half of the 1920s
Made of silver plated bronze and enamels. It measures 25.15 mm in height (flagpole), 29.06 mm in width and weighs 5.2 gram without its screwplate.
In excellent condition with light overall wear. The enamels are extremely well preserved without repairs and show minor dings only. Its details are still crisp and most silver plating is present although the bottom right part of its reverse is covered by dark patina. The badge includes its time period screwplate and its screw has not been shortened.
The society “Friend of Children” (ОДД) was created at the end of 1923. It worked under the leadership of the “Children’s Commission at the All-Russian Central Executive Committee”, established in January 1921 headed by F.E. Dzerzhinsky. The activities of the ODD were held under the slogan “All to help children!”. The society ceased to exist on July 1st, 1935 on the basis of a resolution of the SNK of the USSR as it fulfilled its main tasks. The functions of the ODD were transferred to the executive committees of the councils of party, trade union and Komsomol organizations.
