Research:

Order of the Patriotic War 1st class #169099

“Comrade GURO performed the tasks of the head of signalling service of the artillery troops of the tank corps. He managed to achieve effective signalling of all types for the artillery troops, thus ensuring efficient signalling into the whole operational depth of the operation. During the period 12-30 January 1945, the radio network worked impeccably on both the small unit level and on army level.

By keeping constant control and providing assistance to his troops, he managed to maintain long leg signalling despite the fact, that the artillery units and the headquarters platoon are equipped with low power short range radio stations.

In the specific occasions when radio link was broken, he personally went out to the units deployed in the field and ensured that all the problems were solved. Such on 27.01.1945, signalling link was broken towards 385 Guard heavy self-propelled artillery regiment (the HQ and their radio station was lagging behind). The SPG regiment was engaged in combat near the settlement Holemba. Comrade GURO went out directly to the firing positions in the field and set up the radio link by means of the signalling terminal. The regiment received its new combat mission in proper time (to provide cover on the flanks of our troops near Schonwald).

Comrade GURO conducted extensive work during the period of preparations for enemy defence breakthrough by the 150 artillery brigade and 145 Guards artillery brigade.

He managed to achieve very reliable radio links between all the artillery units and the units they supported in the breakthrough operation. The strike requests and correction data was relayed immediately to the artillery troops.

For efficient organisation of the signalling for artillery troops and for personal courage and bravery, comrade GURO deserves to be bestowed with order “PATRIOTIC WAR I CLASS”.”

Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class #124059

” Captain GURO worked much and hard for organising combat training of the radio operators during the tank corps refitting period.

In the Lviv-Przemyśl operation, he was always among the tank corps headquarters operative team. Utilising the newly established radio network, he provided uninterrupted and reliable radio signalling between the corps commander, the tank brigade commanders and the army headquarters.

He maintained reliable and uninterrupted radio links operating in the most complicated meteorological conditions (heavy showers most of the time) and on the maximum capability distances.

Comrade GURO deserves to be bestowed with order “PATRIOTIC WAR II CLASS”.”

Order of the Red Star #355508

“Comrade GURO has been serving in the regiment from the day of its formation. As the radio company commander, he proved himself as an efficient manager, decisive and demanding officer. When the training company was organised, comrade GURO was assigned to be the commander due to his all-round competences and high military culture. He efficiently utilised his assets and established effective training and education programs for the cadets. As the result of 4 months hard work, completely untrained young women were trained to be qualified signals specialists – telegraphists and radio operators.

Occupying the office of the radio company commander, comrade GURO achieved good combat cohesion among the unit personnel as a whole and among the radio crews specifically. He pays special attention to the equipment maintenance, which keeps his technical assets always in operational condition.

Comrade GURO maintained effective work and training programs for his subordinate and himself daily raises his specialist proficiency. Thanks to his persistent work, the radio communication link between the front headquarters and the subordinate units is always stable and reliable.”
