Description
10th Anniversary of the October Revolution Badge
OSOAVIAKHIM (Society for the Assistance of Defense, Aircraft and Chemical Construction)
Made of silver and enamels. It measures 39.98 mm in height, 34.08 mm in width (at its bottom) and weighs 11.4 grams without its screwplate.
In superb, well above average condition with perfectly crisp details and virtually no traces of wear. The enamels are well preserved and without repairs and show a small superficial flake on the red star only; barely noticeable and not distracting from the overall appeal of the badge. Much off the original gold plating on its obverse is still present which is not often seen with these prewar pieces. The badge comes with its original and well fitted screwplate and protective plate, the latter shows silver markings as does the badge itself. Its screw has not been shortened or repaired.
On the right side of the obverse some text is engraved: “1917-1927”, “M.10 K.”, “to the hero-invalid”. We thus think the recipient with the initials M.K. sustained disability during his revolutionary work.
The Osoaviakhim society was formed in the early 1927; the 10th Anniversary of the Revolution badge was among the very first it awarded over the organization’s 21 year long history. It was given exclusively for making a substantial donation to the Osoaviakhim coffers.
