Variation with Rivets 

 

Awarded to Private Petr Petrovich Mandrichenko (Пётр Петрович Мандриченко)

 

For demonstrating bravery and precision under enemy air raids while serving as a gun layer. On 20 November 1941 he shot down an enemy aircraft, and on 24 November near Bolshekrepinskaya, he downed a second aircraft with accurate fire

 

 

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 47.09 mm in height,  48.28 mm in width and it weighs 31.5 grams without its screwplate. The serial number is located at the 6 o’clock position and the mint mark on the 12 o’clock position of its reverse. This early variation has three rivets on its reverse. The minimum known serial number is 24417 and the maximum number is 28750

 

In good condition, with moderate to heavy wear on the raised areas, such as the soldier and the lettering on the central medallion. The enamel remains well-preserved, with no repairs or chipping, despite multiple dings and scratches. The reverse is in excellent shape, showing only a few contact marks and featuring an attractive dark patina on the silver. The order includes its original period silver screwplate, and the screwpost has not been shortened.

Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits In the course of the combat operations, comrade MANDRICHENKO has been serving as a gun layer and proved himself as a brave, disciplined enlisted man. He especially distinguished himself as brave and courageous during Harris enemy air raids in the sectors of Dobropole and Bolshekretinskoe (correct: Bolshekrepinskaya). Despite ongoing strike at the battery positions, comrade MANDRICHENKO kept aiming and firing his gun at the Fascist aircrafts. As the result of this effort, comrade MANDRICHENKO gun shot down one enemy aircraft on 20 November near the village Dobropole. On 24 November near the village Bolshekretinskoe, comrade MANDRICHENKO’s precise aiming resulted in another enemy aircraft in catching fire and crashing down.

Gun layer comrade MANDRICHENKO is utterly diligent, takes exceptional care of his gun, and is always combat ready. He deserves order “RED STAR”.
