Description
Medal for the Liberation of Warsaw
Variation 4 (Voenkomat)
Awarded to Lt. Ivan Semenovich Serdyuk (Иван Семенович Сердюк)
Made of brass. Measures 32.10 in diameter; 37.11 mm in height and weighs 15.8 grams without its suspension.
The medal is in great condition with crisp details and most of its original gold-like luster present. Its brass suspension is time period to the medal as is its old ribbon and uncut connection ring. The medal comes with its award document dated April 4th 1968 and is numbered AB (АБ) 202242.
These post-war issues were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances; the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
