For personally leading a tank battalion to the outskirts of the village of Zernograd (Rostov Region) after a thorough reconnaissance. The tanks were not noticed by the enemy until they appeared on the outskirts of the village and as a result was driven out of the settlement
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 51.02 mm in width, 49.05 mm in height and weighs 30.2 grams without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.
In worn condition with medium wear to the raised parts of the center medallion and several scratches on its reverse. The enamels are well preserved and mostly ptesent but show a chip on the very tip of the 12 o’clock ray. Its screwpost has been repair/enforcement and is shortneed by a few millimeters. The order comes with its well fitted and time period screwplate.
Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merits:
On January 30, 1943, the battalion as a part of the advancing units approached the village of Zernograd, Rostov Region. With superior forces, the enemy held the settlement. Comrade Ivanov (working as an adjutant of the battalion headquarters) was instructed to find a hidden approach to the settlement. After a thorough reconnaissance, Comrade Ivanov personally led the battalion tanks to the outskirts of the village – the tanks were not noticed by the enemy until they appeared on the outskirts of the village. The enemy did not expect an attack from this outskirts. As a result of a swift attack, the enemy was driven out of the settlement.
Conclusion: Worthy of being awarded the Order of the Red Star.
