Partisan of the Great Patriotic War Medal 2nd class

Earliest variation 1 without a raised rim on its reverse

Possibly awarded to Boris Borukhovic Okun (Bronislav Okun)

Made of brass. It measures 32.31 mm in diameter and 2.76 mm in thickness. The height of the medal is 37.14 mm (including the eyelet) and it weighs 16.7 grams without its suspension.

In worn but decent condition without repairs. Some details worn off but most are visible and both sides show several small dings and scratches. A small amount of the original luster is still present and the double layer steel suspension is time period to the medal. Its connection ring has been cut.

A Cyrillic name is engraved on its reverse reading Окунь Бронислав (Okun Bronislav). There is no exact fitting combination with that name found in the online archive but according to our researcher the is a typical Jewish name form the Belorussia area. very often the Jewish men adopted more Slavic sounding names similar to their Hebrew names. When diving a bit deeper we found a partisan named OKUN, Boris born in 1924 – a member of a partisan unit in Belorussia. Boris is also likely already changed from Barukh. No guarantees but if this person is indeed our guy, then he joined a partisan unit in December 1943 after escaping from a concentration camp. He worked in a supply and working section of the partisan base.
