‘Brigadmil’ Voluntary Police Support Unit Badge
1930s
Made of silver plated bronze and enamels. It measures 39.47 mm in height, 42.65 mm in width and weighs 5.2 gram without its screwplate and protective plate.
In worn but decent condition with most silver plating still present. Some details on the higher laying parts are not visible but the text surrounding the red star is still perfectly readable. The enamels mostly present without repairs but show some chips on the very tip of the 3 and 9 o’clock rays of the star. The badge includes its time period protective washer and well fitted screwplate.
In the 1930s, in the USSR, societies for the promotion of militia and criminal investigation (OSODMIL) were created, which in 1932 were reorganized into brigades of militia assistance – Brigadmil-. These were renamed into voluntary people’s squads in 1959.Â
