To Colonel Mikhail Nikonorovich Galkin (Михаил Никонорович Галкин)

 

 He served in the Civil War where he sustained 7(!) wounds. Awarded for 20 years of service and for ably commanding his training regiment since September 1943

 

 

Made of solid silver and enamels. Measures 45.15 mm in height including its eyelet, 37.43 mm in width and it weighs 26.1 gram without its suspension. The serial number and curved mint mark are located at the 6 o’clock position of its reverse.

 

In overall good condition with light to medium wear on the higher laying parts. The details are mostly visible and much of the original gold plating is still present. The white enamel is flawless and the red enamel shows some minor superficial chipping and a small small repair on the bottom of the top banner (just above the hammer and sickle). its connection ring has not been cut and the order comes with its time period double layer steel suspension and old ribbon.

Awarded on April 30, 1945 to Colonel Mikhail Nikonorovich Galkin, commander of the 8th Rifle Training Regiment, 49th Rifle Training Division. The order was awarded for 20 years of service and for ably commanding his training regiment since September 1943. He devoted a great deal of attention to training non-commissioned officers, providing valuable replacements for the frontline units. He is a disciplined, proactive, demanding, and authoritative commander with great practical experience. Born in 1901 and having enrolled in the army in 1918, he served in the Civil War, during which he suffered no less than 7 wounds; he sustained another wound and contusion in February 1942. In addition to this Red Banner, he was awarded a Red Banner in 1941 for skillfully commanding a rifle regiment during the liberation of Tikhvin. His other awards include the Defense of Leningrad Medal and a long service Red Star and Order of Lenin.
