Awarded to Private Mikhail Fedorovich Zadorozhny (Михаил Федорович Задорожный)

While being cut off from the main force Zadorozhny attacked the enemy and made them retreat. 20 enemy troops were killed in the process and even though Zadorozhny was wounded he did not leave the battlefield

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 46.49 mm in width, 48.85 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 22.6 gram without its suspension.

This early order is in a nice, above average condition. The enamel is all present and problem free and shows some dings and contact marks only. The higher laying parts like the clock in the towner and the wreath surrounding it show medium to strong wear. Its connection ring has not been cut and the order comes with an old brass suspension.

Private Zadorozhny was also awarded an Order of Glory 2nd class and two Medals for Bravery

Short translation of the research:

On 15 May 1944, a larger enemy infantry force counter-attacked during the engagement on the river Dniester, Moldavian Soviet Socialist republic, near the hill 32.0, which is 2,5km south-west of the village Dorotcaia. On some of the sectors, the enemy managed to push slightly out our formations. In this engagement, the platoon commander was taken out of action and the squad commander ZADOROZHNY assumed the  command. The platoon led by ZADOROZHNY resisted stubbornly, but was cut off from the main force during the course of the battle. Preserving his composure, comrade ZADOROZHNY raised his men into a decisive push and attacked the enemy on their flank. The was forced to retreat. And when our neighbouring units counterattacked as well, the enemy assault was repulsed. The left behind over 20 bodies in the vicinity of the positions occupied by ZADOROZHNY’s platoon. Our rifle units could keep the line. Comrade ZADOROZHNY was wounded in this engagement. After having rapidly applying the dressings, he continued to be active on the battlefield until after the enemy attack finally failed, and only after that, he was sent to the medical post.

For being true to his military duty, comrade ZADOROZHNY deserves a state award – order “GLORY III CLASS”.
