Complete Documented Group of a Soviet Order of the Red Star, two Bravery Medals and a Medal for Combat Merit

 

Awarded to Private Ivan Nikolaevich Saulin (Иван Николаевич Саулин)

 

For eliminating 8 Hitlerites, being wounded twice and being the first to rush into the enemy positions

 

Beautiful and complete set of awards to a true hero

 

 

 

The group consists of the following items:

 

Order of the Red Star #481653

Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.05 mm in width, 46.79 mm in height and weighs 26.2 gram without its screwplate. The mint mark is located above, and the serial number underneath the screw post.

The beautiful order is in excellent, well above average condition with light wear on its center medaillion. The enamels are stunning and without repairs and show some minor contact marks only. The order comes with a well fitted and time period silver screwplate.

 

Medal for Bravery #2531293

Made of solid silver and lacquer. Measures 37.36 mm in width, 42.75 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 28.4 gram.

The medal is in excellent condition with light wear on the higher laying parts. All details are crisp and most of the red lacquer is still present although some of it is covered by some dirt. There have been no repairs and its connection ring has not been cut. Both sides show an appealing dark patina.

 

Medal for Bravery #2547354

Made of solid silver and lacquer. Measures 37.38 mm in width, 42.49 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 27.7 gram.

The medal is in excellent condition with light wear on the higher laying parts. All details are crisp and almost all of the red lacquer is still present although some of it is covered by some dirt. There have been no repairs and its connection ring has not been cut. Both sides show an appealing dark patina.

 

Medal for Combat Merit #914018

Made of solid silver. Measures 32.41 mm in diameter, 37.66 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 18.0 gram.

The medal is in excellent condition with light wear on the higher laying parts. All details are crisp and all of the red lacquer is still present although it is covered by some dirt. There have been no repairs and its connection ring has not been cut. Both sides show an appealing dark patina.

 

Medal for the Victory over Germany

Made of solid silver. Measures 32.17 mm in diameter, 35.91 mm in height including its eyelet and it weighs 18.0 gram.

The medal is in excellent condition with full gold plating and crisp details.

Translation of the citation for the Medal for Bravery #2531293:

 

16. Rifleman of 4th rifle company private SAULIN Ivan Nikolaevich is awarded for the combat engagements near the settlement Tenau during 6-9 May 1945, in which he fought bravely and courageously and killed 3 Hitlerites by the fire of his submachine gun.
Born 1904, Ukrainian, none party member, drafted on 08.09.1943 by Selidovka commissariat. In the field forces since 24.09.1943, not wounded, not previously bestowed.
Саулин Иван Николаевич

The 4th, light, wound was inflicted in the battle for town Taman on 28.01.1943. He sustained fragmentation wound of the soft tissue of the left hip. He was hospitalised until 28 January 1944. After the recovery, due to his health condition, he was reassigned to a technical position in an Airforce unit. At present, he is an aviation weapon specialist. He is exceptionally responsible in his duties. The wounds are certified by the medical certificates issued by the hospitals №1568 and №4324 on 11.07.1942 and hospitals №4153 on 28.01.1944.

For exemplary conduct in defence of the Motherland and exhibited courage and bravery, for sustained wounds, he is recommend for a state award – order “RED STAR”.

 

 

Translation of the citation for the Medal for Bravery #2547354:

 

13. Rifleman of 8th rifle company private SAULIN Ivan Nikolaevich is awarded for the engagement on 25 January 1945 near the settlement Dunau, in which he was one of the first to rush into the enemy positions and eliminated 5 enemy troops.
Born 1904, Ukrainian none party member, drafted by Selidovka district military commissariat in 1941, in Patriotic war since 1941, wounded 2 times.

 

 

The Medal for Combat Merit #914018 was awarded for handing around supplies. The citation (last image in picture gallery) can be translated on request. The citation of the Order of the Red Star was not found online.
