Variation 1a with a ‘Short Horizon’

Made of gilded brass. Measures 32.19 mm in width, 37.41 mm in height including the eyelet and it weighs 17.1 gram without its suspension. 

This medal is in excellent condition with much gold plating present. There are a several tiny dings and scratches and light overall wear but most details are perfectly visible. The suspension is original and typical for a Defense of Leningrad medal.

This is the earliest version of the medal featuring a short line of the horizon on the obverse.

Awarded to all Soviet military and civilians who participated in the defense of Leningrad between September 1941 and January 1944.
