Description
Soviet Order of the Red Banner #206301
This original WW2 order of the Red Banner is in a great, well above average condition. The details are crisp and the enamel only shows minuscule superficial flaking, barely noticeable with the naked eye. The gold plating is mostly present but covered underneath a appealing layer of dark patina. The reverse is problem free and also shows a desirable oil-like patina. The connection ring has been cut and the award comes with an old brass suspension.
The Order of the Red Banner recognized military deeds. Before the establishment of the Order of Lenin, the order functioned as the highest (and practically the only) military order of the USSR. Practically all well-known Soviet commanders became Cavaliers of the Order. Also awarded to NKVD personnel.
