Medal for the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945 (Voenkomat)
This medal is literally a textbook example for it is portrayed in ‘Soviet Orders and Medals’ by Andrew Reznik (page 203)
Made of gold plated brass. Measures 32.16 mm in width, 37.17 mm in height, including the eyelet and it weighs 16.1 gram without its suspension.Â
This medal for the Victory over Germany is in near mint condition with all details visible and full gold plating.
These post-war issues were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances; the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
Awarded to Soviet service personnel who were on active service during The Great Patriotic War. Also awarded to some allied forces such as the post 9 September 1944 Bulgarian Armed Forces.
