Documented Group of two Orders of the Red Star and a Jubilee Medal
Awarded to Senior Lt. Pavel Antonovich Miroshnichenko (Павел Антонович Мирошниченко)
The group consists of the following items:
Order of the Red Star #2817705
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 48.18 mm in width; 45.92 mm in height and weighs 31.2 gram.
The order is in worn condition with enamel loss on three rays of the red star. The higher laying parts on its obverse show medium wear but many details are still visible. The screwplate is time period to the order and the screw has not been shortened.
Order of the Red Star #3206608
Made of silver and enamels. Measures 47.16 mm in width; 45.38 mm in height and weighs 29.0 gram.
The order is in excellent condition with problem free enamels apart from some small dents on top of the 12 o’clock ray of the red star. The higher laying parts on its obverse show light wear only and the soldier’s details are mostly visible. The screwplate is time period to the order and the screw has not been shortened.
Jubilee Medal “60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR”
Made of gold plated brass. Measures 32.15 mm in diameter; 37.11 mm in height and weighs 16.2 gram without its suspension.
The medal is in near mint condition with full gold plating.
Award booklet
The group is accompanied by an order booklet mentioning both Red Stars and the Jubilee Medal. It is dated 24 May 1948 and numbered ‘В no 788219″
Short translation of the research:
Sr. Lieutenant MIROSHNICHENKO Pavel Antonovich, born 1916.
He was in service since 1937. Retired in 1940. Recalled in May 1941 again.
Artillery battery commander of 45mm AT guns, 1043 rifle regiment, 285 rifle division.
WIA in August 1941 defending Kiev.
Hospitalised until July 1942.
After that he was in serving in 103 reserve artillery regiment, 37 reserve rifle division.
There is a MIA report on him from January 1943. Not clear for me why, as the reserve units were not usually participating in combat. Unless there was some kind of dramatic situation, in which the front line was broken and a reserve unit had to step in.
Retired from the Army in Sept 1943.
Reinstated in the internal NKVD/MVD forces right away as air defence artillery unit Head of Staff.
He served as Head of Staff for the air defence in the southern Ukraine region till 1960.
