Description
‘Brigadmil’ Voluntary Police Support Unit Badge
1930s
Made of silver plated bronze and enamels. It measures 39.2 mm in height, 41.5 mm in width and weighs 6.9 gram without its screwplate.
In well above-average condition, retaining much of its silver plating on its reverse and sharp detail on the raised areas. The enamels are complete with no repairs, showing only minor contact marks and small dings. The screw is slightly bent, but the old screw plate, though not original to the piece, fits well.
In the 1930s, in the USSR, societies for the promotion of militia and criminal investigation (OSODMIL) were created, which in 1932 were reorganized into brigades of militia assistance – Brigadmil-. These were renamed into voluntary people’s squads in 1959.
