Medal for the Liberation of Warsaw

Variation 4 (Voenkomat)

Awarded to Lt. Ivan Semenovich Serdyuk (Иван Семенович Сердюк)

This medal for the liberation of Warsaw is made of gold plated brass. Measures 32.10 in diameter; 37.11 mm in height and weighs 15.8 gram.

The medal is in near mint condition with crisp details and full gold plating. Its brass suspension is time period to the medal as is its old ribbon and uncut connection ring. The medal comes with its award document dated April 4th 1968 and is numbered AB (АБ) 202242.

These post-war issues were awarded by a Voenkomat (Military Commissariat) at the veteran’s place of residence. The reasons for the late issue could vary but in most instances; the Voenkomat medals were “catch-up” awards to those who had taken part in the battle and then somehow overlooked by the awarding authorities during WW2 and in the immediate post-war years.
